A family-owned and operated business, Shade Sails Canada was founded in 1999 from a fascination with nautical aesthetics and design, and a lifetime’s experience in materials and construction. A father and son team, Neil and Brydon Roe spent their early years on the shores of the great lakes in eastern Canada. While Neil worked in heavy construction, Brydon and his younger brother owned and operated a windsurfing shop, collectively fostering a fascination with building and marine rigging.
Years on, now owning a dock and deck building business, Neil was first introduced to tensile fabric architecture while visiting his sons in Australia. Noticing how architecturally pleasing and impressive they were, Neil and Brydon returned home with the intent of adding Shade Sails to their product line, a first in the Canadian market.
Anne Murphy, Brydon’s wife, joined the team in 2010, bringing an extensive sewing background and increasing the quality of the products we are able to produce. Her attention to detail and eye for design have seen the opening of a new branch of the business, the Green Bag Company, recycling our waste material to make beautiful lifestyle and gardening bags.
We continue to strive to increase the range and quality of our products while staying true to our family-centred, local approach to business. It’s been quite the journey crafting shade sails for 20 years, we hope you’ll join us on our quest to promote sun safety and leave as small a footprint on this earth as possible.
Handmade Using The Latest Technology
At Shade Sails Canada we believe in taking a hands-on approach to ensure quality, however, we also believe that shouldn’t come at an exorbitant cost. We use the latest technology to ensure our craftsmanship is as precise and efficient as possible. From the rendering software we use to develop our ideas to our laser-guided cutting table and Juki sewing machines, we’re committed to producing the highest quality products at an affordable price point.
We work closely with the Melanoma Network of Canada to promote sun safety and support those who have had the misfortune to experience this serious form of cancer. More information about the Melanoma Network of Canada can be found on our partner’s page.
Part of being a progressive, outdoor-focused company is taking steps to decrease our impact on the environment. We’ve set up initiatives to make sure we are recycling wherever possible and we always source local contractors and merchants when working all over North America.
