StructureFree-Span Shade Sail Fabric Structure
Kelowna International Airport serves as a gateway into the world-renowned Okanagan. The airport had recently installed a beautiful outdoor sitting area but it became unusable in the hot Okanagan summers and required a shade solution to allow their customers to use the area safely. Aesthetics were particularly important in this case as the airport serves as a first impression to the tens of thousands of travelers passing through the airport every summer.
A spanned structure was used to enable the posts to be placed away from the sitting area, creating a wide, open shaded area. The sail is flown on contrasting attachment points to create an intricate solution with maximum coverage. In addition, high posts were put in place to accommodate advertising banners to be installed at a later date. Outstanding red posts and a white sail were used to compliment the building colours and complete the space.
Construction was coordinated with staff on site, and security & time constraints were factored into the construction due to large volumes of traffic and the added security associated with international airports.
